Chandrapur court gives life term for murder over card game dispute
A Chandrapur court has sentenced a man to life imprisonment for stabbing a young man to death after being stopped from playing cards in 2022.
The Chandrapur District and Sessions Court has sentenced a man to life imprisonment for killing a young man in a dispute that began over being stopped from playing cards. Principal District and Sessions Judge A. K. Lahoti delivered the verdict on September 24, 2026.
The case dates back to around 9 am on December 11, 2022, in Bamanwada village in Rajura taluka. According to police, the accused arrived at a spot where some people were playing cards, but the deceased young man stopped him from joining. Angered by this, the accused threw water there, leading to a heated argument between the two. During the quarrel, the accused's anger is said to have escalated to the point where he stabbed the deceased in the stomach with an iron knife he was carrying, killing him on the spot. Based on a report filed at Rajura police station, a case was registered under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code and Sections 4 and 25 of the Arms Act, crime number 500/2022, and the accused was arrested immediately.
Given the seriousness of the case, Assistant Police Inspector Prashant Sakhare carried out a swift and thorough investigation. He gathered statements from eyewitnesses, the medical report and strong circumstantial evidence, and filed the chargesheet in court in time. During the trial, government pleaders Adv. Seema Ramtake and P. G. Ghattuwar presented firm arguments against the accused, placing testimony and evidence before the court.
Taking into account the arguments and evidence presented by both sides, the court held the accused guilty under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code and sentenced him to life imprisonment. A fine of Rs 5,000 was also imposed, with a further three months of simple imprisonment in default of payment.
Court liaison officer, woman police constable Lalita Shende (buckle number 155, Rajura police station) and the Chandrapur Conviction Cell played a key role in bringing the case to this conclusion. The entire proceedings were carried out under the guidance of Superintendent of Police Ayush Nopani, Additional Superintendent of Police Ishwar Katkade and the Sub-Divisional Police Officer of Rajura.
