The Chandrapur civic body has issued a public notice banning firecrackers on public roads and near silence zones, and requiring written permission for loudspeakers.
The Chandrapur City Municipal Corporation has issued a public notice to keep rising air and noise pollution in the city in check. It aims to curb the unchecked use of firecrackers, loud use of loudspeakers and noise in public places.
According to the notice, bursting firecrackers on public roads, lanes, footpaths and squares has been banned. Loudspeakers and firecrackers are also prohibited within 100 metres of hospitals, educational institutions, courts and places of worship in the declared silence zones of the city.
Written permission from the competent authority will be mandatory to operate loudspeakers and sound systems. Anyone found playing a loudspeaker without permission or violating the prescribed noise limits will have the equipment seized and face punitive action as per the rules.
The noise limits are: 75 decibels by day and 70 at night in industrial areas, 65 and 55 decibels in commercial areas, 55 and 45 decibels in residential areas, and 50 and 40 decibels in silence zones.
To resolve public complaints quickly, the corporation has appointed Deputy Commissioner Sandeep Chidrawar as nodal officer. A grievance redressal cell is working in the corporation's fire department. Citizens can register complaints about noise pollution in their area there. The cell's helpline numbers are 101, 07172 254614, 9823017101 and 1800532 1575.
Zone-wise email IDs have also been given: Zone-1: [email protected], Zone-2: [email protected], Zone-3: [email protected].
The commissioner of the corporation has appealed to citizens to follow the corporation's rules and cooperate with the administration for a clean Chandrapur free of noise pollution.
