Cement block falls from metro bridge in Mira Road, injures 23-year-old
A youth was seriously hurt when a cement block fell from under-construction metro bridge work in Kashimira, Mira-Bhayandar, and lay on the road for nearly an hour before help arrived.
A major accident occurred during construction work under a metro bridge in the Kashimira area of Mira-Bhayandar. A heavy cement block suddenly fell from the bridge and struck a 23-year-old youth, injuring him severely. The incident took place in front of Akshit Bar in Kashimira and was captured on a nearby CCTV camera.
According to information received, the youth, named Shadab, was crossing the road when a call came on his phone. He stopped in the middle of the road for a moment to take the call. In that brief moment, a large cement block from the metro bridge construction site fell directly on his head. Shadab collapsed on the road and was seriously injured.
After the accident, Shadab lay on the road for nearly an hour. Large vehicles parked along the roadside meant that passersby and drivers did not immediately notice him. Eventually, one person spotted him and rushed to get help. He was taken by auto-rickshaw to Wockhardt Hospital in Mira Road, where he was admitted.
The cement block hit him directly on the head, causing a severe head injury. He is undergoing surgery at the hospital. His family is in the process of filing a police complaint over the incident.
The entire incident was captured on CCTV cameras in the area. In the footage, the youth is seen standing near the road when an object suddenly falls from above.
The accident has raised questions over whether adequate safety measures were in place at the construction site under the metro bridge. When metro construction work is underway above a road used by pedestrians and vehicles, proper safety arrangements are essential to prevent construction material from falling.
Local residents say there have been earlier instances of construction material and iron objects falling in the area, though these claims are yet to be officially confirmed. The fall of the large cement block and the youth's serious injuries have renewed questions about safety arrangements at the site.
People are demanding an investigation into who is actually responsible for the accident, why the cement block fell, and whether necessary safety measures were in place at the work site. The real cause of the accident will become clear only after an official clarification from the concerned department.
Shadab remains under treatment in hospital for his serious injuries. His family is in the process of filing a police complaint, and attention is now on what action the police take next.
