A case has been registered against a police constable of Virur police station in Chandrapur district, triggering discussion in the district's police circles. The constable has been named as Manoj Sunil Dubey (buckle number 247). According to the complaint, he created a ruckus in his own police station while drunk, and had an illegal, sharp machete at his waist. The allegations are yet to be proved in court.

According to the complaint, the incident took place at about 11.30 am on Wednesday, September 30, 2026. At the time, police constable Avinash Bhimrao Borule was on duty at Virur police station as duty officer and assistant for "Dial 112". Constable Manoj Dubey, who is posted at the same station, came in and began shouting loudly while drunk, the complaint says.

The complaint states that Dubey glared at colleagues at the station in an attempt to intimidate them. He went near the station's front gate and began slamming the door violently. Sub-Inspector Shyamsundar Suryawanshi, Assistant Sub-Inspector Sunil Meshram and constables Harshal Chaudhari, Saurabh Pagadpalliwar, Bhagwan Padwal and Harshal Lande tried to calm and reason with him. But Dubey was in no mood to listen and kept charging at all his colleagues, the complaint says.

Amid the commotion, complainant Borule noticed that a sharp, dangerous weapon was hanging from Dubey's waist. He immediately brought this to the notice of Sub-Inspector Suryawanshi. The police personnel present then caught Dubey and searched him in the presence of two independent witnesses. An iron machete with a sharp tip and a long, sharp blade was found at his waist, the complaint says.

The blade of the machete is about 9 inches long and 2.5 inches wide. Police seized it in the presence of the witnesses.

On Borule's written complaint, a case has been registered against the accused, Manoj Dubey, on charges of possessing a dangerous weapon without permission, intimidating other personnel and misbehaving while intoxicated. The case has been filed at Virur police station under Sections 4 and 25 of the Arms Act, Section 85(1) of the Maharashtra Prohibition Act and Section 145(2) of the Maharashtra Police Act.

Further legal investigation is under way under the guidance of the station in-charge, Police Inspector Rajendra Devidas Gaikwad.
