Nagpur: Illegal cannabis cultivation has come to light on the farm of a well-known industrialist, who also runs a group of colleges, at Dahegaon under the Kalmeshwar police station limits in Nagpur district. The investigation found that a worker employed on the farm had planted the cannabis for his own use. Kalmeshwar police have registered a case and arrested the accused worker, Babloo Sahu, a resident of Valni.
According to the information available, the farm at Dahegaon in Kalmeshwar belongs to a well-known Nagpur industrialist who runs a group of colleges. Sahu lives there and looks after the farm. He is said to be addicted to cannabis. Unable to afford to buy it, he planted cannabis saplings near his hut. The plants had grown to a height of five to six feet.
Neighbouring farmers noticed the plants and informed the police. A team of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) squad and Kalmeshwar police then reached the spot. Police found nine cannabis plants on the farm. On questioning, Sahu said he had planted them for his own use. Material used for consuming cannabis was also found with him.
Police seized the plants and the material and took Sahu into custody. A case has been registered against him under the NDPS Act. He has denied the involvement of anyone else. Police are questioning Sahu and tracing people linked to him.
