Bribe-taking constable's ACB custody extended by two days
A Nagpur police constable held for taking a Rs 20,000 bribe remains in ACB custody, while his colleague who fled with the trap money is still untraced.
Nagpur.
The court has extended the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) custody of Sachin Tayade, a constable at Jaripatka police station, by two days. Tayade was arrested for taking a bribe of Rs 20,000 after threatening action in an NC case.
Five days after the incident, another constable, Manish Meshram, who fled the scene, remains untraced. It is feared that he will be found only after Tayade's custody ends.
Tayade and Meshram were posted in the police station's NC team. They allegedly demanded Rs 40,000 from the complainant in exchange for not taking action against him, and later agreed to settle for Rs 20,000. The victim lodged a complaint with the ACB, based on which Tayade was caught red-handed on September 16.
During the operation, Tayade's associate Manish Meshram fled with the Rs 20,000 trap money. The ACB has so far failed to trace Meshram, and his escape has raised questions about the agency.
Meanwhile, the ACB produced Tayade in court after his custody period ended, and the court granted two more days of custody. This is the first time in a long while that the ACB has secured a police personnel's custody for seven days.
