Bothered by head lice? Try these simple home remedies
Home remedies using onion juice, neem water and camphor oil to get rid of head lice and nits without store-bought products
Lice or nits in the hair are not unusual, especially during the monsoon. Hair staying wet for long after getting soaked in rain, or sweating, increases the chances of lice in the hair. These tiny creatures may look small, but the trouble they cause is significant. If they are not removed from the hair in time, their numbers keep growing, which damages the hair and can also cause itching and discomfort on the scalp. Besides this, having lice or nits in the hair can also become a cause of embarrassment, since lice can spread to other people's hair, which sometimes makes people keep their distance. There are some simple ways to deal with this problem at home, without needing to buy any expensive product from the market.
The first method is using onion. Grate an onion and extract its juice fully. Both children and adults can massage this juice into their hair. If a child feels a burning sensation from it, mix coconut oil into it and then massage the hair with that oil. Wash the hair thoroughly with shampoo about an hour after the oil massage.
If using onion juice is not preferred, neem leaves can be used as a second method. Boil neem leaves. Once the water cools, crush the leaves well with your hands and collect that water in a bowl. Massage the hair thoroughly with this prepared water and wash it off with shampoo after about an hour. This kills all the lice present in the hair, after which they can be removed from the hair with the help of a comb.
The third method is camphor, which is used in worship and can prove helpful in getting rid of lice. For this, put coconut oil and a few camphor tablets in a container and heat the oil on low flame. Once the camphor tablets dissolve completely in the oil, turn off the gas and let the oil cool. Massage the hair with this cooled oil and leave the hair like that through the night. In the morning, the dead lice will be visible in the hair, which can be removed with a comb. After this, wash the hair thoroughly with shampoo.
