Actor Imran Khan has received temporary relief from the Bombay High Court. The court stayed a notice he had received asking him to leave India, so no action will be taken against him until the next hearing. The decision was taken after a hearing. The next hearing is scheduled for 3 pm on November 2.
The notice to leave India was issued by the Central government. It had added to his troubles, and he approached the court. In his petition, he has said the notice was sent to him without any proper reason. Attention now turns to what the court will decide.
According to the case, a protest was held at August Kranti Maidan in Mumbai on October 10, in which Imran Khan took part. Mumbai Police then made a serious allegation against him of violating the law that applies to foreign nationals. On that basis, he was asked to leave India by October 28.
Imran Khan did not accept the notice. He argued that he could not be asked to leave India without any proper reason being given. He also told the court that the action was unjust and that he was being dragged into the matter without cause.
He then filed a petition in the Bombay High Court, and the hearing began. The Additional Solicitor General, appearing for the Central government, asked for the hearing to be postponed. The Additional Solicitor General also said that no punitive action would be taken against Imran Khan until the next hearing. The court then granted a temporary stay on the enforcement of the notice.
In his petition, Imran Khan has relied on Articles 14 and 21 of the Constitution of India. He contends that foreign nationals living in India should also get equal treatment under the law and protection of life.
Imran Khan is a citizen of the United States. He also holds an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card. Against this background, he has raised questions about the legality of the notice issued to him. Although the court has given him temporary relief for now, the case has not been finally decided. It will be important to see which issues come up at the next hearing.
Imran Khan began acting as a child artist. He first appeared in a film in 1988. He then came before audiences as a lead actor in 2008 with the film 'Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Na', which made him popular among young people.
He later worked in films such as 'Kidnap', 'Break Ke Baad', 'Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu', 'Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola', 'Bombay Talkies' and 'Gori Tere Pyaar Mein'. He stayed away from films after 'Katti Batti', released in 2015, and fans were eager for a new film from him. After a gap of ten years, he returned to acting in 2026 with the film 'Happy Patel: Khatarnaak Jasoos'.
Imran Khan's legal case is now being discussed. The High Court's decision has given him relief for some time. However, the next hearing will be crucial for a final decision on the notice to leave India. All eyes will therefore be on what happens in court on November 2.
