The body of a 32-year-old man who jumped into the Wardha river at Ghugghus in Chandrapur was recovered by a rescue team on Saturday evening. The deceased has been identified as Sabir Ansari Shaikh, a resident of Shriram Ward in Ghugghus. His home was in the Chand Shah Wali Dargah premises.

The police and the disaster management team, the rescue team, had been searching the river since midnight on Friday. The search went on through the night and all of Saturday. After several hours of effort, Sabir's body was found in the Wardha.

According to the information available, Sabir reached the Wardha river bridge near Belora at about 1.30 am on Friday night. From there he made a video call to a friend and said he was going to jump into the river. On the call, his friends tried to talk him out of it and urged him not to take such a step.

While the conversation was still on, the friends sensed the situation was serious and rushed towards the bridge. But by the time they reached the spot, Sabir had already jumped into the river. His motorcycle and wallet were found on the bridge. On seeing this, the friends informed the Ghugghus police and Sabir's family.

Considering the seriousness of the matter, the police called a rescue team from Chandrapur. It was dark and the river's current was strong, but the search for Sabir began regardless. The search continued around the river and in the water through Saturday. His family and relatives were deeply anxious during this time.

At about 4.30 pm on Saturday, the rescue team saw Sabir's body floating in the riverbed. The team pulled it out of the water.

The police and the revenue administration carried out a panchnama and sent the body to the District General Hospital, Chandrapur, for a post-mortem. The reason Sabir took this step is not yet clear, and the exact cause of death has not come out so far. The Ghugghus police are investigating the matter further.
