Yogesh Gajmal Rakshe died when an Eicher goods vehicle hit his motorbike on the Paldhi railway bridge; police have detained the driver.
Accidents continue unabated on the Paldhi-Tarsod bypass near Jalgaon city, and another young man has lost his life on the road. An Eicher goods vehicle hit a motorbike on the Paldhi railway bridge, killing Yogesh Gajmal Rakshe. Yogesh had been married only three months. Local residents are grieving, and also angry.
According to the information available, Yogesh worked as a labourer at a fertiliser warehouse in the Avhane area and supported his family on that income. Having finished his day's work, he was riding home on his bike as usual. As he reached the Paldhi railway bridge, a speeding Eicher goods vehicle coming from the opposite direction hit his bike head-on.
The impact was so strong that Yogesh fell on the road, seriously injured. He was rushed to the Government Medical College and Hospital in Jalgaon for treatment, but doctors declared him dead after examining him. Police acted immediately and have detained the Eicher driver, Dharmendra Pravin Singh Goyal.
Accidents on this bypass are on the rise, and the matter has become a serious concern. On July 30, heavy rain caused the filling of the Asoda bridge to cave in. Traffic on the bypass was then shut completely, and heavy vehicles were diverted onto roads inside Jalgaon city.
Since July, 25 accidents, big and small, have taken place on this road, and 13 people have died. Poor-quality work and traffic pressure are being cited as the reasons. Yogesh's death, just three months after his marriage, has once again raised questions about administrative neglect and highway safety. His family has been plunged into grief.
