About 10,200 anganwadi workers and helpers in Mumbai have received this year's Bhaubeej gift in their bank accounts ahead of the festival.
There is good news before Diwali for anganwadi workers and helpers in Mumbai. About 10,200 workers and helpers in the city have received this year's Bhaubeej gift, and before the festival at that. The amount has been deposited directly into their bank accounts.
Child Development Project Officer Bhausaheb Torkar shared the information through a press note. According to him, the gift has been given on the occasion of the festival in recognition of the work of the workers and helpers. Receiving the money before Diwali has created a mood of joy among them.
The mode of payment has also changed this time. Earlier, the Bhaubeej gift was distributed at the district level. This year, the office of the Commissioner of the Integrated Child Development Services scheme deposited the amount directly into their bank accounts. This has made the whole process simpler and more transparent.
Torkar said the beneficiaries have received the financial benefit directly, without any middleman. He said that receiving the gift before Diwali will raise the morale of the workers and helpers. The initiative is meant to honour their contribution, Torkar said.
Anganwadi workers take the various schemes of the Women and Child Development Department down to the needy beneficiaries. The nutrition and health care of pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, newborns and children below six years is their key responsibility.
They also measure children's weight and height, conduct malnutrition surveys and give mothers and children health advice. They also run pre-primary education, that is, schooling before formal school. Entering beneficiaries' names on the Poshan Tracker system, monitoring children's growth and keeping records of the distribution of nutrition meals are also their responsibility.
The contribution of anganwadi helpers is equally important in all this work. For these workers and helpers, who look after the health and nutrition of women and children through the year, this Diwali will be special for that reason.
