Bhadravati student Jharna Behera picked for Maharashtra state school weightlifting meet
Jharna Behera of Vivekanand Junior College won the under-17 girls' 58 kg title at the Nagpur divisional level and has qualified for the state meet.
Jharna Behera, a student of Vivekanand Junior College in Bhadravati, has been selected for the Maharashtra state-level school weightlifting competition. She qualified for it with a fine showing in weightlifting.
At the Nagpur divisional-level weightlifting competition for girls under 17 in the 58 kg category, Jharna played well and finished first. On the strength of that performance, she has been selected for the Maharashtra state-level school weightlifting competition.
Jharna was guided by Prof. Sangeeta R. Bambode, head of the sports and physical education department, and coach Amol Awale. She achieved this success through regular practice, her coaches' guidance and her own hard work.
Purushottam Swan, president of Vivekanand Gyanpeeth (Convent), Warora, vice-president Jayantrao Temurde, secretary Amanbhau Temurde and all office-bearers of the institution congratulated her on the success.
Principal of Vivekanand College Dr. N. G. Umate, Dr. Sudhir Ashtunkar, Profs. Kapgate, Date, Bairam, Chaudhari, Dhoke, Gedam and Asutkar, along with all the teaching and non-teaching staff, also congratulated Jharna Behera and wished her well for the Maharashtra state-level competition.
The college family said Jharna's achievement adds another feather to the cap of Vivekanand College in the field of sport. They also expressed confidence that she would put up a notable performance at the state-level competition as well.
