In May 2026, an unidentified person had attacked him with a sharp weapon, a sickle-like blade known as a koyta, at his own hotel in Parli town, leaving him seriously injured. Shivajirao Shinde was at his hotel at the time when a young man arrived and attacked him with a koyta in hand. Shinde was badly injured in the attack. Other people present at the hotel caught hold of the young man, which saved Shinde's life. Shivajirao Shinde suffered serious injuries in the attack. Speaking to the media afterward, Shinde had said there was a boy named Survase whom he did not even know, but that he had heard the boy had some dispute with his son. He said the boy had come in front of his house and abused him in front of everyone. He said he had been struck several times on his hands and legs. Shivajirao Shinde had also alleged at the time that money had been looted from his hotel.
There is now intense discussion in political circles over whether that attack has any connection to Shivajirao Shinde's suicide. It remains to be seen what the police investigation reveals about his suicide. His last rites are to be performed today at 11 am.
