Vaibhav Chavan, who had exposed a recruitment racket, was found hanging in Beed taluka; relatives allege murder and name the Kurash association.

A major police recruitment scam came to light a few days ago across Maharashtra, including Pune. Vaibhav Chavan of Beed had exposed a large racket that secured government jobs through fake sportsperson certificates. Now shocking and infuriating news has emerged in the same case: Chavan has died in suspicious circumstances.

On Thursday, his body was found hanging from a lemon tree in the Imampur area of Beed taluka. His family was plunged into grief on seeing the body. Relatives say there were marks of assault on Chavan's body and injuries on his leg. They therefore allege that it was not suicide but a crime carried out as part of a conspiracy. The relatives have also made the serious allegation that the Kurash association is behind the death.

Meanwhile, an audio clip has surfaced that Chavan sent to a friend before his death. It has stunned many people. In the recording, Chavan said, "My life has been in danger since I exposed the Kurash association's racket. However my death may come about, the Kurash association will be responsible for it." The suspicious death has caused alarm across the area.

Chavan was originally from Beed. Two years ago he was trying to join the Dharashiv police force. In 2024-25 he applied for police recruitment under the sportspersons' quota. However, another candidate who had scored the same marks as him submitted a fake sportsperson certificate and got the job. Chavan lost his chance of recruitment as a result.

Chavan began a strong campaign against this injustice. During that campaign he exposed a large racket that got people jobs on the basis of fake sports certificates.

Chavan's relatives staged a sit-in protest in front of the police station for a full 12 hours, demanding that a case be registered against the guilty. The police then gave the necessary assurances and have begun an investigation. The family now awaits justice.
