Aryavir Sehwag, son of former India explosive batter Virender Sehwag, has been handed the captaincy of the Delhi Under-19 men's team. The Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) has made him captain for the Vinoo Mankad Trophy and has announced the squad.

Aryavir recently played for the India Under-19 team against the Australia Under-19 side. He could not play a big innings in that series, but the DDCA has still placed this important responsibility on him.

A 16-member team under Aryavir Sehwag was named after a meeting of the DDCA junior men's selection committee. The side includes several young players. Ranav Bugga is vice-captain. The tournament will be played in Visakhapatnam from 8 October.

Aryavir represented the India Under-19 team in the three-match ODI series against Australia Under-19. He gave the team good starts but could not convert them into big scores. He looked in good form during the series but did not make a big score. In the first match, played in the presence of Virender Sehwag, he scored 28. In the second match he made 47, falling short of a half-century. In the third match he contributed 34.

Aryavir also has experience of senior cricket. He played for West Delhi Lions in the Delhi Premier League. He got only two matches and scored 24 runs across both, but he got the chance to share a dressing room with senior players.

Aryavir said recently that he wants to achieve a big milestone in cricket. He does not feel the pressure of being Virender Sehwag's son. He plays his natural game.

The 16-member Delhi squad for the Vinoo Mankad Trophy is: Aryavir Sehwag (captain), Tanmay Chaudhary, Arnav Bugga (vice-captain), Dhanya Nakra, Uday Chawla, Garv Kumar, Abhiraj Gagan Singh (wicketkeeper), Tarun Singh (wicketkeeper), Aryan Sharma, Ojasdeep Singh, Kirit Kaushik, Varun Vanjani, Rudra Dev Yadav, Pradyumn Sanan, Parth Raj and Shantanu Yadav.
