A joint anti-drug search operation was carried out at Ballarpur railway station in Chandrapur district on Wednesday, September 23, 2026. Teams from the Chandrapur Local Crime Branch, Ballarpur Police Station, the Government Railway Police (GRP) and the Railway Protection Force (RPF) came together for the drive, aimed at curbing the covert smuggling of narcotics by rail.

The Andhra Pradesh Express, train number 20805, was thoroughly searched between 10.30 am and 11.30 am. The team reached the train while it was halted at Ballarpur station and combed the sleeper and general coaches, closely checking passengers' luggage. The teams went coach by coach, examining every bag and item without haste.

According to information received, the teams that took part in the operation included the Chandrapur Local Crime Branch, the Crime Detection team of Ballarpur Police Station, the Chandrapur district police dog squad, and a joint GRP-RPF team from Ballarpur. All these agencies divided responsibilities among themselves and conducted a thorough search of the Andhra Pradesh Express while it stood at Ballarpur station. With several teams boarding the train at once, the operation was carried out on a large scale and in a well-planned manner.

Trained dogs named Arjun and Mangal from the Chandrapur district police dog squad played an important role in the operation. With the help of the two dogs, suspicious bags, coaches and all of the passengers' luggage were checked. Since the dogs are specially trained to detect the smell of narcotics, the police teams used them to closely search the luggage in each coach. During the search, which lasted about an hour, no narcotics or suspicious material were found.

Such operations are considered important for curbing the covert smuggling of narcotics. The police administration said it would continue to carry out such joint search operations regularly in future and take strict legal action against drug traffickers. The police administration made it clear that the Chandrapur police and the railway police would remain alert and continue such joint drives to stop illegal transport by rail and create deterrence against offenders.
