Mukesh Ambani was moved as his children recalled Dhirubhai Ambani's struggles and Jio's 13-year journey after the company's strong stock market debut.
October 28, 2026 was an emotional and historic day for Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani. A special ceremony was held after the strong stock market listing of Jio Platforms. Speeches by his younger son Anant Ambani and daughter Isha Ambani brought tears of joy to his eyes. The Ambani family recalled Jio's 13-year journey and the struggles of grandfather Dhirubhai Ambani.
Speaking at the listing ceremony, Anant Ambani spoke about the family's past and the days of struggle. He said the journey began in a modest home in Chorwad, Gujarat. His grandfather Dhirubhai Ambani, who left from there, worked at a petrol pump in Aden. He had neither much money nor any big support, but his dreams were big.
Anant also praised the vision of his father, Mukesh Ambani. He spoke of the journey from building the world's largest refinery to connecting the country to the internet. He said Jio is not just a company, it is the trust of crores of Indians.
Anant said, "The whole country showered Jio with blessings. A mother said, 'Jio, my son', a grandmother said, 'Jug jug jiyo, my son', and friends said, 'Jio, yaar'. Jio is the world's first name that is itself a blessing." He credited Jio's success to all countrymen and to his team. Mukesh Ambani was moved on hearing his son's words.
Isha Ambani, non-executive director of Reliance Industries, recalled Reliance's first public issue (IPO) in 1978. She said her grandfather had always believed that ordinary families should take part in India's prosperity not as mere spectators but as 'owners'. According to Isha, nearly 50 years later that same trust has been established once again. She also praised her brother Akash Ambani's 13 years of continuous hard work and contribution.
Akash Ambani, chairman and managing director of Reliance Jio, said the company's listing on the market is not a final destination but the beginning of a new journey. He reiterated the promise of continuing to create value for shareholders. He also thanked his parents for their guidance.
On the stock market debut, Jio Platforms made a strong entry. The company's shares listed directly at Rs 1,358 against the issue price of Rs 1,119, a premium of about 21.4 per cent. After the listing, the company's total market capitalisation has reached about Rs 12.6 lakh crore.
