Amravati doctor booked under POCSO for allegedly trying to sell minor's newborn for Rs 3.5 lakh

A woman doctor, her husband and the girl's minor boyfriend face a POCSO case in Amravati; the allegations are yet to be confirmed by police.

A case that has caused a stir in Amravati has come to light. A woman doctor is alleged to have delivered the baby of a 17-year-old girl and tried to sell the newborn for Rs 3.5 lakh. These are only allegations so far, and police investigation is yet to confirm them.

A case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act has reportedly been registered against the doctor, her husband and the girl's boyfriend. The boyfriend is also a minor and police have taken him into custody. The doctor and her husband are said to have locked up the hospital and absconded. It is claimed that the matter was brought to light by women office-bearers of the Shiv Sena.

According to the complaint filed at Frazerpura police station, the girl had a physical relationship with her minor boyfriend and became pregnant. After the pregnancy, she went for a check-up to Dr Vaishali Bhoje in the Rajapeth area.

The complaint says the doctor told them during the check-up that the girl was about five months pregnant. Because of the girl's young age, her family told the doctor they did not want the baby. The doctor is alleged to have replied that arrangements could be made to donate the child to an orphanage.

According to the complaint, the same woman doctor treated the girl from pregnancy through delivery. On October 15, the girl developed stomach pain and was admitted to the hospital, where she gave birth to a girl. After treatment, she was sent home from the hospital.

The complaint states that the matter took a new turn on October 17. The doctor had called the girl's family to the hospital. Two women office-bearers of the Shiv Sena, joint contact chief Varsha Bhoyar and Yuvati Sena chief Komal Badre, were also present at the time.

The office-bearers are said to have alleged that the doctor was selling the newborn girl for Rs 3.5 lakh. The complaint also alleges that the doctor's husband threatened the victim's family not to tell anyone the truth.

According to the complaint, the two women office-bearers then brought the family safely out of the hospital. The matter reached the police after this incident.

A case under the POCSO Act is registered at Frazerpura police station. Police have taken the girl's boyfriend into custody, while the doctor and her husband are said to be absconding. It has also emerged that the hospital is locked.

The allegations of a minor's delivery, an alleged attempt to sell the newborn and threats to the family have caused considerable stir in Amravati. Police are expected to probe the truth of the allegations and the remaining details of the alleged sale of the child. The allegations are under investigation, and the full picture will be clear only after police findings.
