A tehsil-level counselling and guidance camp for children with serious illnesses was successfully held in Amgaon on November 4 under the guidance of Amgaon Tehsil Health Officer Dr Vedprakash Chauragade. Children in the tehsil battling serious and incurable illnesses, and their parents, were given help with treatment and emotional support.

The camp was inaugurated by Zilla Parishad Vice-President and Health and Education Committee Chairman Sureshji Harshe. Amgaon Panchayat Samiti Chairperson Yogita Phund presided.

Among the chief guests were Amgaon Panchayat Samiti Deputy Chairperson Sunanda Uke, Gondia Zilla Parishad members Hanumant Vatti and Chhabutai Uke, Amgaon Panchayat Samiti members Tarendra Ramteke and Nandkishor Kore, Satish Gajbhiye, and Amgaon Panchayat Samiti Block Education Officer Rahul Jagtap.

All the seriously ill children who came to the camp and their parents underwent full health check-ups. Medical officers of the District Early Intervention Centre (DEIC), medical officers of the Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK) and their team, and medical officers of all primary health centres in the tehsil advised on the children's health. Practical advice was also given on how families can cope with the mental stress that comes with fighting an illness.

A notable feature of the camp was that the parents who accompanied the children also had their health checked and received guidance. Parents were given full information on the various government health schemes available for treating serious illnesses, free medicines and treatment, and financial assistance. Dignitaries urged them to take advantage of these schemes.

Medical officers, health inspectors, female and male health workers and all ASHA workers contributed greatly to the camp's success under Dr Chauragade's plan. Local residents and the parents who benefited have thanked the health department for the initiative.
