AISA activists gather at Jantar Mantar again demanding CEC Gyanesh Kumar's resignation
Police began detaining people as activists gathered at Jantar Mantar on Saturday, a day after over 1,000 protesters were held there.
Activists of the All India Students Association (AISA) gathered once again at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on Saturday. The protesters are demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. They are also protesting against the SIR of electoral rolls.
Prohibitory orders had been imposed in the Jantar Mantar area after Friday's protest. Additional police deployment, barricades and tight security have also been put in place there. More than 1,000 protesters were detained on Friday.
After Friday's detentions, AISA national president Neha Bora had appealed to activists to return to Jantar Mantar by 1 pm on Saturday. Activists of various organisations from across the country then reached the area again.
As the activists gathered, police began detaining people. Barricades had been placed on the roads leading to Jantar Mantar, and security personnel were posted at several points.
The AISA, SFI, NSUI, AAP and other political and student organisations took part in Friday's protest. Those detained included AAP leader and activist Yogendra Yadav.
