Ballarpur police have booked a 70-year-old man for allegedly attacking his 65-year-old wife with an axe at Itoli on the night of September 29, 2026.
Ballarpur (Chandrapur): A man has been accused of attacking his wife in Itoli village of Ballarpur taluka on the night of September 29, 2026. Ballarpur police have registered a case against the 70-year-old husband.
According to the complaint, the accused, suspecting his wife's character, struck the 65-year-old woman with an axe. She suffered a serious injury to her left leg. She is being treated at the rural hospital in Ballarpur, and police are investigating further.
According to information from police sources, the complainant, a resident of Itoli aged 65, and her husband Ramdas Laxman Bhurse (70) had been in a domestic dispute for some time. It is alleged that Bhurse constantly doubted his wife's character and beat her. According to the complaint, about a month ago, on Nagpanchami, the accused had injured his wife with an axe over the same suspicion, and a complaint about that incident was lodged with the police.
Fed up with the continuous harassment, Chandrakala had since the Pola festival been living with her son and daughter-in-law, who stay separately in three rooms of the house. The accused husband lived alone in a thatched shed adjoining the house.
On the night of September 29, 2026, at around 8 to 8.30 pm, the woman had eaten and was sitting in the first room with her granddaughters as usual. According to the complaint, the accused Ramdas Bhurse then barged into the house from outside, hurling abuses and carrying an axe. It is alleged that he shouted, "Today I will kill you alive", and swung the axe at Chandrakala. She crouched to avoid the blow, so the axe struck her left leg below the knee, causing a serious injury.
As the woman ran out screaming to save her life, the accused chased her with the axe. Terrified, she took shelter in the house of a neighbour, Hiraman Bhaiyaji Pipre. Hearing her cries, villagers including Rupesh Dudhbade, Prabhakar Bhurse, Sainath Bobate and Laxmi Pipre gathered at the spot. Seeing the crowd, the accused left the axe there and fled.
On learning of the incident, the complainant's son immediately called the police. Ballarpur police reached the spot and admitted the injured woman to the rural hospital in Ballarpur for treatment.
On September 30, 2026, on the complaint of Chandrakala Bhurse, Ballarpur police registered a case against the accused Ramdas Laxman Bhurse under Sections 109(1) (attempt to murder), 296 (obscene acts/abusive language) and 351(3) (criminal intimidation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. Woman sub-inspector Karishma More is investigating the case further.
