Police acting under the DCP (Zone 1) found six women believed to be Bangladeshi nationals on Tuesday night and detained an alleged agent; two more suspects are wanted.

Pune police carried out an operation in the Budhwar Peth area late on Tuesday night and found six women said to be Bangladeshi nationals. An alleged agent, suspected of helping them stay in the city, has been detained.

The operation was conducted under the supervision of the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 1), Pune city, with officers and staff from three police stations taking part. According to police, it was part of an effort to identify foreign nationals alleged to be living in the city without valid documents, and to trace the network that arranges their travel and stay.

During the operation, police found six women believed to be Bangladeshi nationals. The alleged agent linked to them was detained for questioning. Police want two more suspects in the case and have identified them.

The operation was carried out by a team comprising Senior Police Inspector Dhananjay Pingale and Sub-Inspectors Kamble and Makhare of Khadak police station, Assistant Inspector Kudale of Vishrambaug police station, and Assistant Inspector Suravase and woman Sub-Inspector Gadilwad of Faraskhana police station. Other police personnel were also with them. Officers from different jurisdictions took part, and their work was coordinated under the guidance of the Deputy Commissioner.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Hrishikesh Rawale said a joint police operation was conducted in Budhwar Peth on Tuesday night. Six women believed to be Bangladeshi nationals were found and one alleged agent was detained. The process of registering an FIR at Faraskhana police station against the detained agent and the two other wanted suspects is under way.

The exact sections and applicable legal provisions are expected to become clear once the FIR is formally registered. So far the agent has only been detained; no arrest has been announced.

Police are examining how the six women came to Pune, their identities and immigration documents, and what role the alleged agent played in arranging their stay. They are also investigating how the women entered India through official immigration routes and whether an organised network was involved in their travel or stay. Police have not yet disclosed the identities of the women, the detained agent or the two wanted suspects.
