Two PMPML employees left the bus route and drove a girl who collapsed on board straight to Sassoon Hospital's emergency ward, and she is now out of danger.
The quick thinking of two PMPML employees in Pune saved the life of a 17-year-old girl. Driver Rajendra Nikam and conductor Gorakhnath Chavan left the bus's fixed route as soon as the girl lost consciousness and took her straight to Sassoon Hospital.
The incident took place on the morning of October 29. According to available information, the girl was travelling on a PMPML bus with her parents and younger brother. During the journey she suddenly felt dizzy and fell down. She had lost consciousness.
Her family was left panicking at the sight of their daughter in this condition. The younger brother cried out in panic, "What has happened to my sister?" and ran to conductor Chavan, telling him everything.
Realising how serious the matter was, Chavan informed driver Nikam without delay. When Nikam looked in the mirror, the girl appeared to be in a very bad state and her whole family was badly shaken. In that tense moment Nikam kept a cool head and took a big decision. Paying no heed to stops or signals, he left the fixed route and drove the bus towards the emergency department of Sassoon Hospital.
Within minutes the bus reached the door of the emergency department at high speed. As soon as it stopped, Chavan quickly fetched a wheelchair and took the unconscious girl inside.
Sassoon doctors too began emergency treatment without losing a moment and put the girl on oxygen. After a while the doctors said her condition was stable and she was out of danger. The family and everyone else present were relieved on hearing this.
The promptness and good sense of the PMPML employees are being praised from all quarters.
