Pune, October 23, 2026: Work on the proposed Chhatrapati Sambhajiraje International Airport at Purandar is moving ahead. The Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC) has begun the process of appointing a consultant to carry out the surveys required to prepare the Detailed Project Report (DPR).

Deepak Kapoor, vice-chairman and managing director of MADC, shared the information on X. He wrote that work on the Purandar airport project is under way and the process to appoint a consultant has begun.

According to MADC, the consultant will not only conduct surveys. The consultant will also assist in the study of technical and economic feasibility, and will handle the tender process until the tender for the construction of the airport is issued.

The airport will spread across seven villages of Purandar taluka: Pargaon, Kumbharvalan, Vanpuri, Ekhatpur, Udachiwadi, Munjawadi and Khanawadi. Land acquisition is also under way.

MADC has already assessed the feasibility of the land in all seven villages. The next stage will involve further surveys and technical studies. The final DPR will be prepared on that basis, clearing the way to put the project into action.

The proposed surveys include topographical, geotechnical, hydrological and cartographic assessments. These will establish the height and contours of the land, the type of soil and rock, the load-bearing capacity of the ground, the natural drainage paths for water and the risk of flooding. Detailed maps of the proposed airport site will also be prepared.

The findings will provide technical information for planning the runway, terminal building, internal roads, drainage system and other facilities at the airport.

MADC officials said the scope of the engineering studies and technical surveys will be defined in the tender documents. The surveys will be conducted after the consultant is appointed, and their results will be reviewed. The DPR will then be finalised, paving the way for further planning and the tender for construction.
