Father held for burning 10-year-old daughter with cigarettes in Misarwadi, sent to judicial custody
A man has been arrested and remanded to judicial custody for allegedly torturing his 10-year-old daughter in Misarwadi, on a complaint by the girl's elder brother.
A father has been accused of torturing his 10-year-old daughter, the very person a child expects to protect her. The girl, who lives in the Misarwadi area, was allegedly doused with cold water, burnt with cigarettes on her hands and legs, and had the hair at the back of her head cut. Her brother lodged the complaint with the police.
A case was registered against the father at CIDCO police station on the brother's complaint, and the police arrested him as soon as it was filed. Sub-Inspector Sopan Narle said the accused was produced in court today and was sent to judicial custody. Narle is also conducting the further investigation.
The complainant is 24 years old. He lives separately with his wife and earns a living as a painter. His younger brother and the 10-year-old sister live with their father.
According to the complaint, at around 11.16 am on October 25, the complainant's uncle phoned to say that the girl and her father were not to be seen at home. The brother went to his father's house but found neither of them there, and began searching for them.
Meanwhile, he received a call from a maternal cousin who lives in the Jahagir Colony area on Jatwada Road. She said the girl had come to her neighbourhood. When the brother reached there, he found the girl, who began crying on seeing him.
The brother gained her confidence and questioned her. The complaint says the girl told him that between about 2 am and 3 am on October 25, her father forcibly removed her clothes at home, poured cold water on her and burnt her hands and legs with cigarettes. The complaint also states that the hair at the back of her head was cut and that she was molested.
After hearing the girl, the brother went to CIDCO police station and filed the complaint, on the basis of which the case was registered. The incident has caused anger in the area, and residents are condemning it as an act that shames humanity.
