Asim Sarode says Shinde's Dussehra rally may be his last; tweet goes viral

Senior lawyer Asim Sarode said Eknath Shinde's Dussehra rally this year may be his last, as the Supreme Court hears the Shiv Sena dispute.

Five Dussehra rallies are being held in Maharashtra today. The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh's event is over, while four are still to come: those of Pankaja Munde, Manoj Jarange Patil, former Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.

Of these four, the state's attention is fixed on the Thackeray and Shinde rallies. Everyone wants to know how Thackeray's roar will sound and what Shinde's speech will hold. Meanwhile, senior lawyer Asim Sarode has made a major statement that this may well be Eknath Shinde's last Dussehra rally. The remark has caused a stir in political circles.

Sarode raised the Shinde camp's tension on Dussehra itself with a tweet early in the morning. He wrote that it should come as no surprise if this is the last Dussehra rally of the "Sattanath" (lord of power), held with an identity gained by stealing a party's name. According to him, the party was first stolen, then alleged irregularities in elections were tried out, and the last act of the drama of power is now under way.

Sarode further wrote that although all the experiments may seem to succeed on the stage of democracy, it is yet to come that the curtain of the court will end this game of power. He said that however great power may be, in a democracy the last word does not belong to power. It belongs to the Constitution and justice. After this blunt reaction, wild talk has intensified and Sarode's tweet is going viral.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court is hearing the Shiv Sena case. The hearing is expected to be completed by the end of this month. All eyes are therefore on what the verdict will be and whether the Shiv Sena will belong to Thackeray or Shinde. The whole country is watching this question.

Kapil Sibal, the lawyer for the Thackeray camp, argued forcefully in the Supreme Court why the Shiv Sena is Thackeray's. On the other side, Neeraj Kaul, the lawyer for the Shinde camp, also put his case aggressively in court and said the Shiv Sena belongs to the Shinde camp. Lawyers on both sides cited several earlier cases in their arguments. It remains to be seen what the court decides.

The verdict will not be just another verdict but a historic one. It will become an important basis for settling disputes among political parties in future. For this reason the whole country is watching it.
