Tukaram Mundhe says his son skips birthday parties where alcohol is served

Tukaram Mundhe, Commissioner of the state's Food and Drug Administration (FDA), has been in the news these days. Since he took charge of the FDA, action has been under way across the state. Amid this, Mundhe spoke openly about his children for the first time.

Mundhe has a son and a daughter. He says he always talks to his children, and they too speak to him freely.

Mundhe said the birthday parties of his son's friends are held on a large scale and alcohol is served there, but his son never goes to such parties. His position is clear: he will not go to a party where alcohol is consumed. Whether to go or not is his own decision.

His son's birthday is celebrated at home. Either a cake is cut at home, or the family marks it at some small place. Eight to ten friends come, and everything is kept very limited. According to Mundhe, this is simply how his son thinks.

Mundhe does not drink himself, and nobody in his house does, so no money is spent on it. When nobody at home drinks, the question of serving others does not arise. However much money education may need, he is ready to spend it.

He does not know how much his children will earn in future, or whether they will earn at all, but he is firmly confident that they will earn through their own hard work and by the right means. That, he said, will also make him happy.

In an earlier interview, Mundhe had said that constant transfers have always affected his children.
