A truck carrying 20,000 litres of propylheptanol overturned after three vehicles collided on the Patlipada bridge on Ghodbunder Road early Wednesday; one person was injured.
Three vehicles collided on Ghodbunder Road in Thane West in the early hours of Wednesday, November 4, after which a truck overturned. The truck was carrying 20,000 litres of propylheptanol chemical.
The accident took place near the Patlipada bridge at about 2:44 am. Officials at the spot said one person was injured.
According to the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) disaster management cell, a vehicle heading from Thane towards Ghodbunder went out of control while climbing the Patlipada bridge and rammed straight into the road divider.
A Tata Intra pickup tempo, which was carrying vegetables from Kalwa to Owala, also hit the divider. An Ashok Leyland truck was coming from behind, travelling from JNPT towards Gujarat. It was carrying 20,000 litres of propylheptanol chemical. This truck too hit the divider and overturned.
The tempo driver, Salim, was hurt in the collision. Traffic police personnel took him to a nearby hospital, where he was treated.
A streetlight pole by the roadside also fell in the accident. Oil from the overturned tanker trailer spilled on to the road. Officials had the fallen pole removed and had soil spread on the road after the spill.
On receiving the information, staff of the city traffic police, Kasarvadavali police station and Chitalsar police station, the fire brigade and the disaster management cell rushed to the spot. A rescue vehicle and a utility vehicle were also deployed. Staff of the TMC's electricity department were also stationed there.
Traffic police personnel used a crane to clear the wrecked vehicles from the road. As a result, traffic on Thane-Ghodbunder Road moved slowly. Officials were carrying out cleaning work at the spot so that movement could return to normal.
