Civic PT24 City Desk

Mumbai faced muggy conditions on Friday, November 6, with the city's overall air quality index at 104, in the moderate category.

Mumbaikars had to contend with sultry, humid weather on Friday, November 6, as daytime temperatures stayed high across the city. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast mainly clear skies for Mumbai and the suburbs. The city's overall air quality index (AQI) was 104, which falls in the moderate category.

According to temperature data made available for November 6, the minimum temperature at Colaba was 26.3 degrees Celsius. At Santacruz it was 23.2 degrees Celsius. No rain was recorded at either of the two weather stations. The IMD forecast says skies will be mainly clear for Mumbai and the suburbs, and no rain warning has been issued for Mumbai.

The day's maximum temperature was 36.9 degrees Celsius at Colaba and 35.4 degrees Celsius at Santacruz. The high temperature and humidity together kept conditions uncomfortable for residents. The IMD forecast says skies are likely to remain mainly clear in the coming days as well.

According to data from the Central Pollution Control Board's SAMEER app, Mumbai's overall AQI on Friday morning was 104. Under the national classification, an index of 51 to 100 is considered satisfactory, while 101 to 200 falls in the moderate category. The figure of 104 therefore shows the city's air in the moderate category.

Air conditions varied across the city's monitoring stations, and pollution levels were moderate at many of them. According to the available data, the AQI was 119 at Worli and 118 at Colaba. Deonar recorded 109 and Andheri 113. Borivali's AQI was 93, in the satisfactory category.

The figures for Bandra-Kurla Complex do not match. One section gives its AQI as 152, while another gives it as 136.

Air quality was not uniform across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) either. Thane recorded an AQI of 96, in the satisfactory category. In Navi Mumbai it was 124, which is moderate. Kalyan recorded an AQI of 102.
