Kasturba Marg police arrested a 60-year-old woman and her 32-year-old daughter-in-law, accused of absconding in an NDPS Act case, after a search in Dahisar.
Kasturba Marg police have arrested two women, one aged 60 and the other her 32-year-old daughter-in-law. The two are alleged to have been absconding in a drug trafficking case registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, according to an official police statement. The arrests followed a search in Dahisar.
The arrested women have been identified as Rehana Abdul Hamid Mulani alias Roli Appa (60) and Farida Mulani (32). Both live in Santosh Nagar in the Daulat Nagar slum in Borivali East.
According to the statement, a case had been registered against the two at Kasturba Marg police station under Sections 8(c) and 21(b) of the NDPS Act. They are alleged to have been absconding since the case was registered.
While the investigation was on, a police team received information on November 2. It said the two women, wanted by the police, were living in the Navjeevan SRA building on S. V. Road, near Dahisar Market, in Dahisar West. Acting on this, the team searched the building and found both women in a room on the seventh floor.
When questioning began after the arrest, the two are alleged to have given evasive answers. They were then taken into custody and brought to the police station for further investigation.
Police said the subsequent investigation established the involvement of both women in the case. Section 29 of the NDPS Act, which relates to criminal conspiracy or abetment, was therefore added to the case.
Officials said Rehana Mulani has 17 earlier cases registered against her. These include four of drug trafficking, five offences against the body, two of assaulting public servants, three of rioting and three offences against property.
The officials said the two women are mother-in-law and daughter-in-law. They are alleged to have been hiding their identity and changing their place of stay repeatedly in recent days to evade investigators.
The action was carried out by a team of Kasturba Marg police station under the guidance of Additional Commissioner of Police (North Region) Shashikumar Meena, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North Region, Zone 3) Gajanan Shivling Rajmane and Assistant Commissioner of Police (Dahisar Division) Jayraj Ranware.
