Kandivali police have arrested a 42-year-old man from Delhi for stealing a gold chain worth about Rs 5 lakh from a jewellery shop in Kandivali West.

Kandivali police have arrested a man from Delhi on charges of stealing a gold chain worth Rs 5 lakh from a jeweller's shop in Kandivali West, Mumbai. The accused has been identified as Satish Kumar Krishnaprasad Kesari, 42, who lives in Uttam Nagar, Delhi. He is originally from Bihar and holds a BTech degree in computer science.

According to the information available, Satish came to Delhi in search of work. He dreamt of becoming an IAS officer and prepared for the UPSC examination while working, but did not succeed. He then tried his luck on the television show Kaun Banega Crorepati, but got only as far as the Fastest Finger First round, so his dream of sitting on the hot seat remained unfulfilled.

After failing in the examination and the reality show, Satish started a tours and travels business with the help of his wife. He took loans to buy four to five four-wheelers and attached them to companies such as Ola and Uber. The business ran into losses and he was left with a heavy burden of debt.

It has been stated that when repaying the loans became difficult, he turned to crime. His plan was to walk into a well-known jeweller's shop as a customer, pick up jewellery on the pretext of looking at it, and flee at the first chance. Under this plan, on November 15 last year, he targeted Padmavati Jewellers on Mathuradas Road in Kandivali West. Posing as a customer, Satish asked to see a gold chain weighing 43.2 grams, worth about Rs 5 lakh, and fled with it when he got the chance.

To evade the police, he is said to have given fake documents and identity papers while staying at a hostel in Mumbai. After the incident he also switched off his mobile phone and went straight to Delhi. Kandivali police went through hundreds of CCTV footage clips and traced the accused through technical analysis. Finally, a Mumbai Police team raided a location in Delhi, arrested Satish and recovered the stolen gold chain from him.

During questioning, Satish confessed to a similar theft in the Dindoshi area as well. The accused is currently in police custody, and Kandivali police are investigating the case further.
