BEST is preparing to let commuters buy bus tickets through UPI, and the administration has signalled that a proposal is being drafted.

Mumbai's commuters are set to get a gift from BEST just ahead of Diwali. To ease passengers' stress further, BEST is preparing to take a major decision. The BEST administration is preparing to offer UPI payment for buying bus tickets, which would make travel easier for Mumbaikars. There are also indications that the administration is drawing up a proposal.

The BEST bus is considered Mumbai's second lifeline. UPI payment for bus tickets is likely to be introduced. The option has been sought so that passengers do not face trouble over loose change and buying a ticket becomes easier. BEST committee member Ajay Singh has drawn attention to the matter. Public transport services in cities such as Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Bhubaneswar and Nagpur offer digital payment. Singh asked why this facility should not be available in the BEST bus service of Mumbai, the country's financial capital.

Passengers often have difficulty at the time of buying a ticket because they do not have loose change. With a UPI option, the problems of bus conductors will also be resolved. Mumbaikars are now watching what decision the BEST administration takes on the proposal.

Digital options on the railways too

The railway administration has already adopted online payment ahead of BEST. Digital payment is accepted at railway ticket windows, so passengers can choose it for everything from monthly passes to tickets. The railways also have a mobile app, and for several months passengers have been using the online ticket facility. BEST already has an app for online tickets. The administration is now preparing to adopt the UPI payment option as well, which will greatly benefit BEST bus passengers.
