A horrific incident took place on Saturday night in the crowded Jagat Mandir area of Yavatmal city. Two young men were killed with sharp weapons in a violent fight between two groups. One died on the spot, while the other, seriously injured, died during treatment. The double murder has caused alarm across Yavatmal city and the district.

According to preliminary information from police sources, a heated argument broke out suddenly between two groups in the Jagat Mandir premises on Saturday night. The quarrel began as a mere exchange of words but flared up within moments and turned into a physical fight. In a rage, the accused attacked the other group with sharp weapons they were carrying. It has been said that the quarrel may have arisen from an old enmity or some minor dispute.

Abhay alias Mittam Pathode suffered deep wounds in the attack and died on the spot, drenched in blood. Abhay was originally from Rajurwadi in Ghatanji and was currently living in Umarsara. His companion, Mr Chavan, was also very seriously injured in the attack.

On hearing of the incident, people nearby immediately informed Awadhutwadi police station. Police reached the spot quickly and drew up a panchnama. The seriously injured Mr Chavan was admitted to the district government hospital for treatment, but the injuries were so deep that he too died during treatment. After the attack, all the suspected accused fled the spot under cover of darkness.

The double murder in a single night has also stirred the Yavatmal police department. Proceedings to register a murder case against the accused have begun at Awadhutwadi police station. Police search teams have been sent in different directions to catch the absconding accused as soon as possible. Police are investigating the case thoroughly from every angle.
