The Yaduvanshi Samaj organised a Mahaabhishek and a bhajan sandhya at the Mahashivling complex in Lalpeth, Chandrapur, on Monday. MLA Kishor Jorgewar was present and took part in the puja.
A Mahapuja is held at the site every Monday by a different community. This time it was the Yaduvanshi Samaj's turn. The community held a bhajan sandhya, the Mahaabhishek and an aarti, and Mahaprasad was distributed at the end. The Mahashivling had been decorated attractively for the occasion.
The ancient Mahashivling at Lalpeth is said to be the largest in the state. Jorgewar has taken the initiative to spread its significance across Maharashtra and to develop the site as a major religious tourism destination. As part of this effort, a grand temple has also been built at the complex at his initiative.
The aim of the initiative is to give Chandrapur's religious and historical heritage a wider identity. Jorgewar believes the grandeur, antiquity and religious importance of the Mahashivling should not stay confined to Chandrapur but should reach devotees across Maharashtra.
The practice of holding a Mahaabhishek by a different community every Monday also runs on Jorgewar's initiative. It gives different communities a chance to join in the religious event. Besides creating a devotional atmosphere at the complex, the effort is also meant to build goodwill and unity among communities. This week's event by the Yaduvanshi Samaj was part of the same series.
Jorgewar is working on the view that developing a religious site should not stop at building a temple. The site's identity should grow at a larger scale, devotee participation should increase, and religious tourism opportunities should come up around it. If the significance of the Lalpeth Mahashivling reaches across the state, it could give a boost to religious tourism in Chandrapur and a new identity to the area.
Preserving the heritage of the ancient Mahashivling, giving it wider religious recognition and drawing more devotees to the site are the main aims of Jorgewar's initiative. Through these efforts, the Mahashivling complex at Lalpeth is moving towards becoming an important centre of faith, community participation and tourism.
