Aadhaar card holders have got some relief. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has started a free facility for one Aadhaar-related service. Updating an email ID through the mobile app has been made free until December 31, 2026.

The service earlier carried a fee of Rs 75. The waiver is now in force from July 1 to December 31, 2026, which means no money has to be paid during this period for an email update through the app.

Those whose email ID has changed, or who have not yet linked one to Aadhaar, can update it through the Aadhaar app. The aim is to keep the contact details of Aadhaar holders current and help them receive important notifications. According to UIDAI, the waiver applies only to email updates made through the Aadhaar mobile app.

To update an email ID from a mobile phone, first download the official Aadhaar app on a smartphone, or update it if it is already installed. Then open the app and log in after entering the required details. Next, choose the option to update the email ID and complete the process by filling in the required details. Finally, follow the instructions given in the app to complete verification.

Not every Aadhaar update is free. The waiver is only for email ID updates. Separate rules and fees may apply for changing the name, date of birth, mobile number or other details in Aadhaar.

The deadline for updating identity and address documents free of charge online on the myAadhaar portal has been extended to June 14, 2027. Before making any change to Aadhaar, check the conditions and fees for that service on the official UIDAI website.
