Every so often a film comes along that advises you not to take life too seriously. Ayushmann Khurrana's Udta Teer is one such out-and-out entertainer. Mistaken identity, madcap situations and dialogue that suddenly brings a smile make for a winning mix. Director Aakash A. Kaushik has added a dash of comedy to a wacky idea and served up a treat for audiences. The film has been rated 3.5 stars.

The story revolves around a Pakistani intelligence officer. After an accident in India, he loses his memory and begins to believe he is an Indian counter-intelligence officer. A chain of misunderstandings follows, giving rise to one madcap situation after another.

The writing finds humour even in the smallest things. Many of the dialogues do the job of making the audience laugh, and they are ably supported by the background score. Rather than merely filling silences, it sharpens the comic timing.

Ayushmann Khurrana brings the character to life with his natural charm and superb comic timing. Watching his bewildered avatar, the audience is left in splits. Sara Ali Khan adds spark to the story with a fresh approach, while the rest of the cast keeps up the entertainment. Ram Kapoor, Rahul Bose and Gulshan Grover make the film's madcap mood even more colourful in their respective roles. The presence of the late Mukul Dev is also memorable.

One minor problem is that the film slows down in places in the second half. Trimming a few scenes would have made the comic punch even stronger. Even so, the strong performances, witty dialogue and zany plot make the film entertaining overall.

The final verdict: if you want to sit back and laugh without straining your head, Udta Teer is a good option. The plot stretches a little in places, but the humour and the actors' performances make up for it to a large extent. Led by Ayushmann Khurrana, the film delivers generous doses of laughter and is a pleasant treat of light-hearted entertainment.
