Tukaram Mundhe says he has received no letter from Sanjay Raut on FDA graft claims, wants only proof
FDA Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe said he has not received any letter from MP Sanjay Raut and asked him to submit his evidence to him or the anti-corruption department.
Political temperatures are running high over alleged corruption in the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). MP Sanjay Raut had praised FDA Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe, but also raised serious questions about alleged irregularities in Mundhe's own department. Mundhe has now responded directly to the allegations.
Speaking on the FDA's action, Raut had said the "Mundhe effect" should not remain confined to hotel kitchens and should be visible in the FDA's offices as well. Raut said officials of the department were allegedly demanding money and that he had information about it. He had also claimed that he had given Mundhe a letter on the matter.
Mundhe clarified that he has not received any letter from Raut. He said whatever there is, he has read in the media. Mundhe added that if Raut provides concrete information or evidence, action can certainly be taken on it.
Mundhe said, "I have not received any copy of his letter. I have read whatever there is in the media. He should submit the details he has with me or with the Anti-Corruption Bureau." He said this as an appeal.
Mundhe also said that licence holders from whom money has been demanded, or who have paid money, should contact him directly. According to him, the identity of a complainant is kept confidential, so nobody needs to be afraid.
Stating his position, Mundhe said, "I do not want anything else, I only need proof." Attention now turns to what evidence Raut actually has and what he does next.
