Three panels in Someshwar factory poll as Yugendra Pawar releases Sharad Pawar camp's list
The Someshwar cooperative sugar factory election turned three-cornered on the last day for withdrawing nominations, after the present chairman broke away to form a separate panel.
Three panels will now contest the election to the Shri Someshwar Sahakari Sakhar Karkhana. Yugendra Pawar of the Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) and Rajendra Jagtap, taluka president of the Sharad Pawar faction of the party, have released their list of candidates.
They said they would contest through the "Shri Someshwar Shetkari Vikas Panel", taking other parties along. The list includes former Zilla Parishad president Satish Khomane, former Neera Agricultural Produce Market Committee chairman Datta Chavan and former Baramati taluka panchayat samiti chairman Popat Pansare. Rajendrakumar Jagtap and some other candidates are also on it.
The Ajit Pawar faction of the Nationalist Congress announced the "Shri Someshwar Vikas Purush Ajitdada Panel" and named its candidates. The list was released in the presence of Jay Pawar. The faction's candidates were chosen by Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar after interviews. Jay Pawar was also present at the interviews along with Surendra Pawar.
Meanwhile, the factory's present chairman, Purushottam Jagtap, raised the banner of revolt. Together with former Purandar MLA Sanjay Jagtap, he announced a separate panel. As a result, the Someshwar factory election will be a three-cornered contest.
All this happened on the last day for withdrawing nomination papers, giving the election a new turn. The contest was initially expected to be between the Sharad Pawar and Ajit Pawar factions of the Nationalist party, but after Purushottam Jagtap's stand it has become a three-way fight.
Yugendra Pawar, a young leader of the Sharad Pawar faction, has been in touch with people in the factory's working area and the taluka for several days. A few days ago he called a meeting of shareholders and workers in the factory area to learn the workers' views. He then continued a outreach campaign among shareholders in different villages of the working area and assessed the candidates.
Rajendrakumar Jagtap also said the Shri Someshwar Shetkari Vikas Panel would fight the election with full strength under the guidance of senior leader Sharad Pawar and MP Supriya Sule, and under the leadership of young leader Yugendra Pawar. The three-cornered fight is set to be watched closely across the state.
