Residents of Talodhi village are angry over the functioning of the gram panchayat. Supplying clean water to the village is the panchayat's responsibility, but people allege that the tap water in Ward No. 2 contains creature-like things. Villagers say they have complained repeatedly, yet the administration has taken no concrete step. This has raised a question over people's health.
According to residents of Ward No. 2, creature-like things have been seen in the tap water for the past few days. They put the problem before the gram panchayat administration by showing it videos and other evidence. Even so, no firm solution has emerged so far, and anger is building in the village. People allege that the administration should pay serious attention to a basic facility such as drinking water, but is ignoring it.
Villagers have demanded that the matter be taken seriously and that the work of the gram panchayat officer and the administrator be investigated. They also want the village's water supply to be inspected and clean water provided to residents. Villagers said complaints have also been made to the Block Development Officer (BDO) of the panchayat samiti and to the zilla parishad administration.
People say the gram panchayat collects house tax and water tax, but residents do not get basic facilities in return. Villagers, including women, have asked why, if the administration is so quick to collect taxes, it is so careless about providing clean water. They also want immediate action on their complaints.
Social worker Parimal Madankar said, "We have said it repeatedly, yet the gram panchayat administration is deliberately ignoring this problem. The gram panchayat officer and the administrator should stay at the headquarters and fix the water supply at once, or we will take out a big protest march." Villagers have given the gram panchayat a 24-hour ultimatum.
