Former India T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav met Prime Minister Narendra Modi with his wife Devisha Shetty and their children, in a video the PM shared on X.

Suryakumar Yadav, the former India T20 captain, called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with his wife, Devisha Shetty, and their children. The visit took place on Friday, at the auspicious Dhanteras muhurat just ahead of Diwali, and was described as a goodwill call.

Modi put out a video of the meeting on his X account. It shows him talking to Suryakumar, Devisha and the youngsters who had accompanied them. The most talked-about moment came when the Prime Minister lifted Suryakumar's younger daughter into his arms, cuddled her and asked after her well-being. The clip also offers the first public look at the child, who was born in May. Modi also spoke warmly to another little girl from the family.

A girl from the family sang during the visit. The video shows her singing a bhajan, and the Prime Minister appears emotional as he listens. Another account of the visit says the song was in Marathi. The moment added to the warm, homely mood of the occasion.

Sharing the video, Modi wrote: "Ram and Saryu have arrived in the atmosphere of Deepavali. This has made the Deepavali atmosphere even more sacred and divine." His note gave pride of place to Diwali and Dhanteras, and the meeting itself was a family and festive one, far removed from cricket.

On the field, Suryakumar led India to the 2026 T20 World Cup title, making India the first team to win the tournament at home. Despite lifting the trophy as captain, he was left out of the next series because of his own poor form. He is now trying to earn a place back in the national side through domestic cricket, and has been named Mumbai captain for the coming Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy.

Known as an aggressive batter, Suryakumar was at one time the world number one in the T20 rankings. He has played 113 T20 internationals for India and scored 3,272 runs, with four centuries and 25 half-centuries. Fans, who usually discuss him for his performances, are for now watching what comes next in his career, even as this family meeting with the Prime Minister has drawn their interest. The visit, held on the occasion of Diwali, was not merely a formal one and drew attention for its warm family moments.
