Nagpur: Police raided a sex racket run under the guise of a spa and arrested its operator. The action was taken at Rayan Tower in Mangalwari Bazaar, Sadar. Four women were rescued during the operation. The accused has been identified as Lalpekmawi, 38, a resident of Mizoram.
Prostitution was being run at Welina Thai and Hammam Spa on the first floor of Rayan Tower. Annapurna Singh, DCP of Zone 2, learnt of it and directed Sadar police to act. Police sent a decoy customer to the spa, who struck a deal with Lalpekmawi for a woman. As soon as the deal was made, police raided the spa.
Four young women were found there. Three of them are from Bhopal, Delhi and Noida. One local woman works as a cleaner at the spa. The women had been lured with the promise of high earnings and called in for prostitution. Along with a salary, they received a commission of Rs 1,000 on each customer.
Women from the northeastern states are in demand in the flesh trade. As Lalpekmawi is from Mizoram, she found customers easily, and has a long list of them. She had been running the spa for about a year.
Cash and mobile phones, together worth Rs 75,000, were recovered from the spa. The truth about the racket may emerge after Lalpekmawi is questioned. A case has been registered against her under the PITA.
