Sonia Gandhi joins Instagram at 79, follows only three accounts

Former Congress president Sonia Gandhi has finally stepped into the world of Instagram. At the age of 79, she has created an official account on the platform, surprising many. Until now she had stayed away from social media platforms such as Facebook, X and Instagram.

Gandhi has turned to social media to give people a glimpse of her upcoming autobiography, "Belonging: A Journey of Love". The first post on the account is a video.

Soon after the account went live, her followers rose into the thousands, and the official account is now being widely discussed. However, her own following list shows only three accounts: Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and the official page of the Congress party.

In the first reel posted on the account, she has also tagged Rahul, Priyanka and HarperCollins India, the publisher of her book. Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi are already active on social media platforms, and the two follow each other on Instagram.

Among the social media accounts of the Gandhi family, Rahul Gandhi appears to dominate on Instagram. His Instagram followers grew rapidly after the Bharat Jodo Yatra. He has more than 16 million followers and is regarded as the most popular face in the family.

Priyanka Gandhi has about 3 million Instagram followers, and each of her posts draws strong engagement. Varun Gandhi and Maneka Gandhi also have lakhs of followers on Instagram. Robert Vadra, Raihan Vadra and Miraya Vadra have also built a separate fan base on the platform.
