An alleged audio clip involving Rs 500 crore is the subject of intense debate in Maharashtra politics. Manoj Jarange Patil, an activist of the Maratha reservation movement, brought the clip out. The claims in it have caused a stir in political circles.

Following directions from Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Mumbai Police has now formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the matter. Additional Commissioner of Police Shailesh Balkawade will lead the team. Deputy Commissioners of Police Vijaykant Sagar and Bajrang Bansode are also members.

The investigation will look at three things: how genuine the alleged audio clip is, whose voices are heard in it, and what the truth is behind the financial transactions mentioned in it. The clip says Rs 500 crore was given to Jarange through MP Shrikant Shinde.

After the SIT was formed, Jarange questioned the fairness of the inquiry. He said that merely forming an investigation team is not enough and that the matter must be probed to its roots and the truth brought out. Jarange also referred to alleged political tension between Shinde and Fadnavis, and asked whose motive lay behind the entire affair.

Jarange claims the audio clip was not made with the help of AI and is genuine. However, the authenticity of the clip has not been officially established so far. For this reason, forensic examination will be especially important in the case.

Separately, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut has written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, demanding that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) investigate the matter. Political leaders have also expressed apprehension that the audio clip could be fake or AI-generated.

All of Maharashtra is now watching whether the SIT's investigation brings out the truth about the voices in the clip, the alleged transactions and the whole affair.
