Former India cricketer Veda Krishnamurthy says Shweta Sehrawat's move from UP Warriorz to Mumbai Indians gives her a chance to show her natural game in the coming WPL.
Former India cricketer Veda Krishnamurthy has made a significant statement about the upcoming Women's Premier League (WPL). Shweta Sehrawat has now moved from UP Warriorz to Mumbai Indians. According to Krishnamurthy, the move will give Shweta a chance to show her natural game.
Veda shared her views on several subjects in a podcast. She said she is very happy that Shweta Sehrawat has joined Mumbai Indians, because the team will give her the chance to play her natural game. Her earlier team had placed the entire responsibility of scoring runs on her shoulders, and that affected her game. Now that she is with Mumbai, she will get a chance to learn well and become an even better player.
Veda feels that Shweta's early success raised expectations of her sharply. That put pressure on the young player to cement her role and to raise her scoring rate. Veda questioned UP Warriorz's decision to change Shweta's role repeatedly. She said Shweta's main strength as a batter lies not in the finisher's role but in the top order.
Veda added that Shweta has faced criticism for the past few years and that a lot is expected of her. When she arrived in the first WPL season as an Under-19 World Cup winner and India's top scorer, UP Warriorz picked her for their squad.
There she was tried at different positions in the batting order. Technically she is an opener, but the UP management used her as a finisher. Suddenly she was made wicketkeeper and was expected to be the best. "I felt that this was too much to expect from such a young player," Veda said.
At Mumbai Indians, Shweta will get to play alongside several well-known international players, including Harmanpreet Kaur, Nat Sciver-Brunt, Hayley Matthews and Amelia Kerr.
In short, Shweta Sehrawat will now play for Mumbai Indians instead of UP Warriorz, and Veda Krishnamurthy says she will have the chance to show her natural game there.
