Kohli, known as the "run machine", turned 38 on Thursday, holding records in ODIs, the IPL and Tests that few expect to be broken.

Virat Kohli, popularly known as the "run machine", turned 38 today. He was born on November 5 in New Delhi and is counted among the great cricketers of the world.

Kohli made his international debut in 2008 and has remained India's biggest match-winner for the past 18 years. He has set many important records in his career, but some of them, the source says, are not merely difficult to break but impossible to match.

Kohli holds the record for the most ODI centuries. He has 55, while Sachin Tendulkar is second with 49. As fewer ODIs are played now, it is considered impossible for a new batter to reach 55 centuries. He also holds the record for the fastest 10,000 ODI runs, reaching the mark in 205 innings. Tendulkar needed 259 innings, which means Kohli got there 54 innings sooner. He also scored the fastest 28,000 runs, in 624 innings, breaking Tendulkar's record of 644 innings. That record, too, will be hard to break.

Kohli also holds the record for the most runs in a single IPL season. He scored 973 runs in 16 matches, the highest season tally by any batter. More than ten years have passed and the record still stands. He has played for RCB since the start of his career and has been with the same team for 18 years.

Kohli also has the most double centuries among Test captains. He is the only Test captain to have hit seven, having broken Brian Lara's record of five, and it will be very hard to better. The record for the most centuries against a single team is his as well: he has hit 10 ODI centuries against Sri Lanka, and no other player has scored as many against one team in a career. He has won the Player of the Series award 22 times in international cricket, which no other player has done.

One record is quite unusual. Kohli is the only cricketer in the world to take a wicket in a T20 international without bowling a legal delivery. In a 2011 match against England, he bowled the first wide of his career. Kevin Pietersen came down the pitch to it and was out LBW.
