Sangli district police have added 27 new vehicles to their fleet. Guardian Minister Chandrakant Patil formally handed them over at the district police headquarters. The vehicles were bought under the District Annual Plan. They are expected to bring help to people faster in emergencies and speed up law and order work.
The money came from the District Planning Committee's 2026-27 funds. The total cost was Rs 3,19,62,543. The stated aims are police modernisation, stronger traffic management and better internal functioning.
The vehicles are two XUV 7XO, five Scorpio, 14 Bolero, five Tracks Toofan and one Eicher truck. All of them reached Sangli district police through the office of the Director General of Police, Maharashtra State, Mumbai. With different types of vehicles, police will find it easier to reach different locations quickly as needed.
Present at the ceremony with Patil were MP Vishal Patil, MLA Sudhir Gadgil, District Collector Dr Mainak Ghosh, Superintendent of Police Tushar Doshi, Zilla Parishad Chief Executive Officer Vishal Narwade and the Guardian Minister's Officer on Special Duty Balasaheb Yadav. Senior officers and staff of the police department were also present.
Patil said the government is taking several steps to strengthen the police. Besides vehicles, the District Annual Plan also puts emphasis on providing housing for police officers and buildings for police stations. He said that when the police get the necessary basic facilities and modern equipment, their work will have greater impact.
The new vehicles will speed up police movement in the district. Whether there is an accident, a natural disaster, an emergency or a law and order issue, police teams will be able to reach the spot quickly. Patrolling and reaching help to people in villages and remote areas will also be easier.
The vehicles are also seen as important for keeping crime in check, watching for suspicious activity and staying ready to protect people. With enough vehicles and essential facilities, police can respond faster in emergencies. The 27 vehicles will be used to handle law and order in Sangli district more effectively.
