Traffic on the Hinduhridaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Maharashtra Samruddhi Mahamarg between the Bharveer interchange and the Igatpuri interchange will be halted for short periods from October 26 to November 6, 2026. The restriction applies to vehicles heading towards Mumbai and will disrupt traffic for 12 days. It is a concern for commuters and transporters travelling from Nagpur to Mumbai.
According to the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC), safety netting will be installed at the tunnel entrance and on the surrounding hill slopes in this stretch. The aim is to reduce the risk of rockfall and landslides, and so the chances of accidents caused by them.
Every day, Mumbai-bound traffic will be completely stopped at three different times: from 10 am to 11 am, 1 pm to 2 pm and 4 pm to 5 pm. MSRDC said traffic would be controlled in phases during the work to ensure commuters' safety.
Drivers planning to use the highway during these hours may have to wait. Private vehicles, goods vehicles and passenger buses may be affected. Private motorists and operators of goods vehicles and passenger buses have therefore been advised to fix their travel timings in advance.
MSRDC has appealed to all commuters on the Samruddhi Mahamarg, including those from Nagpur, to plan their journeys around the block timings and follow the instructions of the officials concerned. Those heading towards Mumbai, Nashik and Thane should set out with some extra time so that delays on the way do not upset the rest of their journey.
Once the work is completed, travel on the Bharveer-Igatpuri section is expected to be safer.
