Nagpur: Sadar police have launched a special drive against Bullet motorcycle riders who modify silencers to make a harsh, loud noise. Under the drive, police have registered cases against three Bullet riders.
Many Bullet riders change their vehicles' silencers to make a loud and harsh sound, causing citizens considerable trouble. Taking note of this nuisance, Sadar police started the drive, which targets riders who modify silencers.
Police checked all three Bullets for noise pollution. Cases were then registered against the riders of the motorcycles bearing registration numbers MH-31-EX-5511, MH-40-VM-0024 and MH-31-ER-8000. The riders have been booked under Sections 5 and 15 of the Environment Protection Act and Sections 198 and 190(2) of the Motor Vehicles Act. Police are investigating the case further.
Sadar police both inspected the vehicles and registered the cases. The cases against the riders of all three Bullets were registered under sections of both the Environment Protection Act and the Motor Vehicles Act.
Sadar police have appealed to citizens not to make unauthorised changes to vehicle silencers or fit silencers that produce loud noise. Such acts not only cause noise pollution but can also invite legal action.
According to police, if guilty, a court can impose a fine of up to Rs 5 lakh. Sadar police are currently investigating the case further. Demands are also being made that action be taken against the mechanic involved in such modifications.
