Sadavarte says he will expose Raj Thackeray over October 4 march
Lawyer Gunratna Sadavarte attacks Raj Thackeray's planned October 4 march over the Election Commission and SIR issue
Maharashtra politics has heated up over the functioning of the Election Commission led by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. On this issue, the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena and Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) have jointly announced a public march in Mumbai on October 4. Raj Thackeray said the march is being organised over the SIR issue.
Against this backdrop, lawyer Gunratna Sadavarte launched a sharp attack on Raj Thackeray. Sadavarte claimed the October 4 march will not succeed. He demanded that Raj Thackeray clarify his stand on the matter involving Aditya Thackeray. Sadavarte warned that he would expose Raj Thackeray.
Sadavarte questioned the role of Raj Thackeray's agitation. He also appealed to OBC, working-class, underprivileged and Scheduled Caste students to oppose Raj Thackeray's role.
Sadavarte described Raj Thackeray's politics as "political shopkeeping." He said that if Mumbai is shut down or roads are blocked, ordinary people could face hardship. He said clearly that he was not afraid of threats of agitation and indicated he would continue to comment on Raj Thackeray.
Sadavarte also objected to the stand Raj Thackeray has taken on the Gyanesh Kumar issue. He said inter-departmental communication and file notings are not court rulings, and argued that no right can be established on the basis of file notings.
Meanwhile, Raj Thackeray and Uddhav Thackeray have appealed to all political parties to join the October 4 march. According to Raj Thackeray's announcement, the exact time and venue of the march will be announced later.
Sadavarte also targeted Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) leader Supriya Sule over the farmers' agitation, saying politics should not be played with farmers' sentiments. He also objected to calls made during the agitation such as "stop vehicles, be ready to go to jail."
Amid drought-like conditions in Maharashtra, the government is in the process of deciding relief measures. Sadavarte demanded that drought assistance reach farm labourers and small farmers, along with arrangements for grain and rations. He welcomed the state government's declaration of drought and demanded that orders be issued immediately for drought-affected areas.
