Mumbai: The political temperature in Maharashtra is high over the SIR process. After the Thackeray brothers' 'Garjana Morcha', Maharashtra BJP president Ravindra Chavan has now launched a strong counterattack on the Opposition.

Chavan has shared a video of Union Home Minister Amit Shah's speech in Parliament, in which Shah spoke on the SIR process. Along with the video, Chavan has put direct questions to the political parties and leaders opposing SIR.

In his social media post, Chavan's first question was whether infiltrators will decide who the country's Prime Minister and the state's Chief Minister should be. He also asked whether democracy would remain safe if that happened.

Chavan also targeted the Opposition over double entries in the voter list and the right to vote. He asked directly whether a voter should be allowed to vote in more than one place.

The third question was about dead citizens. Chavan asked whether the names of citizens who have died should remain on the voter list. The scrutiny and cleaning of voter lists because of SIR is a talking point, and Chavan targeted the Opposition with these questions amid that debate.

Chavan has appealed to the leaders and political parties opposing SIR to first answer these questions and only then oppose SIR. In his post, he wrote that those opposing SIR should answer these questions.

The BJP's response after the Thackeray brothers' 'Garjana Morcha' has brought SIR back to the centre of Maharashtra politics. Accusations and counter-accusations between the ruling side and the Opposition over SIR are therefore likely to intensify in the coming days.
